Why Ceiling Insulation?

Why is there all this talk about ceiling insulation and why is the government so keen to offer it to us for free?

The governemtn is offering rebates on the cost of installing ceiling insulation in Australian homes (up to $1600). This will allow most Austrlian households to have roof insulation installed in their homes at no cost! So that's why you've probably heard so much about ceiling insualation lately. Lots of households are already taking advantage of this offer, so our advice is get in while you still can.

Heat rises. So it makes sense that your roof is the part of your house which is responsible for the largest unwanted heat loss/gains. In winter your precious heat rises to the ceiling, if unisnulated, lots of this heat is likely to be lost. In summer, when your roof is practically melting under the intense heat of the sun, an uninsulated roof space will allow heat to radiate into your house. Up to 30% of heat is lost through the roof in winter, while approximately 25% of unwanted heat  gain comes through an uninsulated roof in summer. By installing ceiling insulation, you can reduce these figures, start saving money on your heating and cooling bills, enjoy a more comfortable environment and rest easy knowing that you have reducede your greenhouse gas emmissions.

As most Australian homes have pitched roofs, the instalation of ceiling insulation is very easy. A qulaified installer can easying place insulation batts in your roof cavity to quickly protect your home form unwanted heat gains/losses. This is not to say that flat roofs cannot be insulated. While it is a little more time-consuming, most flat roofs can also be insulated.
